Porsche 911 Carrera (996) powered by American Electric Muscle

SHIFT EV powered this Porsche 911 (996) with the best known American work-horses at the time, the NetGain Warp9 DC motor and Cafe Electric's Zilla 2000 Amp motor controller. While many 3 phase AC motors were coming available, the Tesla drive units hadn't been hacked yet and others available couldn't produce the power without other compromises. This was a time when many EV builders were doubling up the Warp9 motors or running the 11" or 13" motors. But we found a perfect mix of fit and performance with a 320-volt battery pack. This system is capable of 400 ft/lbs of torque. The motor is mated to the stock six-speed transaxle retaining that fun sense of being part of the driving experience. It has an incredible 3rd gear no-clutch-needed launch from a stop while outperforming the gas version's 0-60MPH time.
